Popular film director Shyam Benegal passed away at the age of 90. He was battling health problems for a long time. On hearing the news of Shyam Benegal's death, a wave of mourning ran among his fans. He passed away on December 23, 2024 at 6:30 pm. Shyam Benegal's last journey will be completed today, Tuesday, at 2 pm at Shivaji Park Electric Crematorium in Mumbai. Police personnel have been seen deployed outside his house, Triveni Sangam Building, and there is deep silence in the entire area.
Shyam Benegal's daughter Pia Benegal told that her father was suffering from kidney disease for a long time. About two years ago both the kidneys failed, after which he was on dialysis and was undergoing continuous treatment. Recently on December 14, Shyam Benegal celebrated his 90th birthday, which was celebrated together by many prominent Bollywood stars like Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah and Divya Dutta.
Shyam Benegal has received many national awards for his unique contribution to Indian cinema. He won national awards for eight films and gave Indian cinema great actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Smita Patil, Shabana Azmi. Apart from this, Shyam Benegal also directed popular television serials like 'Yatra', 'Katha Sagar' and 'Bharat Ek Khoj'.
Shyam Benegal was born on 14 December 1934 in Hyderabad. His family belonged to the Brahmin community, and he studied economics. But later he was inclined towards photography and he made his first film when he was twelve years old. He is known as the father of art cinema in Bollywood. Shyam Benegal's family includes his wife Neera Benegal and daughter Pia Benegal.
