Loveyappa Trailer Review: Secrets, surprises, and romance with Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor

Tha trailer is finally out. Of this spanking new and refreshing rom-com featuring Junaid Khan (Aamir Khan’s promising son) and Sridevi’s spunky daughter Khushi Kapoor that Phantom Studios announced on Instagram in December 2023. The film is called ‘Loveyapa’. Which could mean anything. But in this film, means a matrimonial alliance between young lovers who thought they knew each other well until they are forced to share their cell phones with each other for a day to make the marriage happen. Naturally, cell phone data spills out a history of secrets that each had kept from the other that now threatens their blossoming romance with a disruption of the alliance.

The villain of this masterpiece move is the girl Bhani’s (Khushi Kapoor) father played with devilish charm and cunning by veteran Ashutosh Rana. Another great and senior actor joins the play in Kiku Sharda. But the trailer belongs to Gaurav (Junaid) and Bhani. Their expressions are as priceless and hilariously dramatic as the secrets that tumble out when each delves into the history of the other’s cell phone records. There is humour in every detail, a tearing of the hair, beating of the chest, as declarations of love fall on deaf ears. This is a new take on romance and relationships explored by director Advait Chandan that must have undoubtedly played out privately in the lives of so many GenNext couples.

But after all the heartache, bitterness, jealousy, frustration and confusion, love does seem to triumph as the trailer is breathtakingly beautiful in its colour and youthfulness. The film is a remake of the 2022 Tamil hit ‘Love Today’ but Junaid and Khushi make it their own story. He is one film old having made a commendable debut last year with ‘Maharaj’ and she is an internet darling already with her breathtaking posts on social media. Put together, they are scintillating magic and a jodi to look forward to in 2025. The film is opening on February 7, but don’t mistake it for a Valentine’s Day release because there is more excitement and ups and downs to its story than Cupid could have dreamed of.
