Former cricketer, coach and father of cricketer Yuvraj Singh, Yograj Singh recently spoke about his strict parenting on the show 'Unfiltered by Samdish' with YouTuber Samdish Bhatia. In the conversation, Yograj discussed his way of raising children and called Aamir Khan's film 'Taare Zameen Par' "vahiyat". Apart from this, he said that if children want success, they should be pushed beyond their limits from a young age.
While discussing his parenting style, Yograj was asked what he has to say about the time he threw skates at his son Yuvraj to discourage his hobby of roller skating. Yograj forced Yuvraj to quit skating and play cricket. To this, Yograj said that he believes that a father has a huge role in shaping the future of a child. He said, "Bachcha wahi banega jo baap kahega." When asked about 'Taare Zameen Par', Yograj said, "It is a very bad film." He further added, "I don't watch such pictures." However, he also clarified that he trained Yuvraj hard to become a cricketer, but never raised a hand on him.
Yograj also shared his views about Hindi cinema, saying, "Hindi films are not something to watch. I don't like Indian actors." He also dismissed stars like Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor and films like 'Baahubali', saying, "It's all useless." However, he named Punjabi crime thriller 'Kohra' as his favourite film and added Hollywood classics like 'Ben Hur' and 'The Godfather' to his list.
Yograj was also asked if he sees any flaws in his parenting, to which he said, "I once told Yuvraj, 'I think I overdid it', but he said, 'No, if you hadn't done that, my story wouldn't have been written.'" Yograj also revealed that many parents come to him to train their children, but he always makes sure that they sign a document stating that he will not be responsible if anything happens during training. "I carry both life and death with me," he said.
In earlier interviews, Yuvraj Singh has opened up about his father's strict upbringing. He revealed that as a child, he was fond of roller skating and even won a gold medal in the Under-14 National Championships. However, Yograj asked him to quit skating to focus on cricket and even threw away his medals and skates. Yuvraj also revealed that he had to undergo rigorous training since childhood under his father's supervision.
