Screenwriter Niren Bhatt, who has penned several big blockbusters in recent times like 'Stree 2', 'Munjya' and 'Bhediya', has spoken openly about the remake culture in Bollywood. Speaking at a session held at the Indian Screenwriters Conference (ISC) on Friday, he said that writers in the Hindi film industry are facing a severe crisis.
Niren Bhatt, who has been the main writer of the Maddock horror comedy universe, said that this is the worst time for writers in the film industry. He said, "There are two pictures here. One is very depressing, all the writers are struggling. This is the worst time for writers, but then it depends on you how you move forward. I believe this is also the best time, because all the established rules have been broken. The whole system has broken, so only those people will succeed who will bring change and writers are the biggest disruptors. Those who are stubborn, their films are not working. This is the best time for change."
Niren Bhatt also strongly criticized Bollywood's growing trend towards remakes in the current times. He said, "Out of 25 remakes after the pandemic, 23 flopped. Success lies only in original content." Along with this, he also said that if a writer finds his voice, he can elevate any franchise. He is working on films like 'Thama', 'Stree 3' and 'Bhediya 2' with Maddock Horror Comedy Universe.
This statement of Niren Bhatt highlights the need for change in the industry and the struggle of writers. He believes that new heights can be achieved in the industry only with original content, and if writers find their vision, they can bring big changes.
