Ram Gopal Varma files petition in Dindoshi sessions court against three-month sentence in cheque bouncing case

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has filed a petition in the Dindoshi Sessions Court seeking bail. The petition has been filed against the three-month sentence imposed on him in a cheque bouncing case. Last month, the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate Court held Ram Gopal Varma's company guilty in a cheque bouncing case filed by a Vile Parle-based firm. Since Ram Gopal Varma was not present in the court, the court also issued a non-bailable warrant against him.

Ram Gopal Varma had filed a petition in the sessions court against this order. Earlier this month, his petition was heard, in which his lawyer sought bail for the filmmaker and appealed for suspension of sentence. The sessions court judge issued notice to the complainant and fixed the next hearing of the case for next month.

The complaint was filed in 2018 by a firm 'Shri', one of whose partners is Mahesh Chandra Mishra. The firm's lawyers Rajesh Kumar Patel and Alok Singh said that the firm has been in the business of supplying hard disks for the last several years. The firm had supplied hard disks to Ram Gopal Varma's company from February 2018 to March 2018 and for this the complainant had raised a bill of Rs 2,38,220.

However, on June 1, 2018, when the complainant deposited the cheque given by Ram Gopal Varma in the bank, the cheque bounced due to insufficient amount. When the complainant approached Ram Gopal Varma, he gave another cheque, which again bounced due to stop payment. After this, the complainant filed a criminal complaint of cheque bouncing in the Andheri Magistrate Court. The filmmaker had claimed that the cheque was not signed by him and he had not issued the cheque. However, the Magistrate Court rejected his claim and said that 'no evidence of possible defence by the accused was found.'
