Ashish Chanchlani granted interim bail in obscenity case, Ordered to appear before investigating officer

Hearing the bail plea of YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, a single bench judge, Srimadrul Kumar Kalita, granted him interim relief and ordered him to appear before the investigating officer within 10 days. The YouTuber has been granted interim bail.

Ashish Chanchlani's lawyers, Diganta Das and Jayaraj Bora, argued in court that their client had not said anything objectionable on the show and the allegations made in the FIR were only against co-accused. On February 10, the Guwahati police registered an FIR on the complaint of a person for making derogatory statements under the Indian Penal Code, Information Technology Act, Cinematograph Act and indecent image of women, in which Ashish was also named.

After hearing both the parties, Judge Kalita granted interim bail to Ashish Chanchlani and said, "He has to cooperate in the investigation by appearing before the investigating officer within 10 days from the date of this order." The High Court fixed March 7 as the next date of hearing and also ordered the submission of the case diary.

Apart from Ashish Chanchlani, others named in the same case in Assam include comedians Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahabadia, Jaspreet Singh and Apurva Makhija. Complaints were filed against them as all of them had appeared on Samay Raina's show 'India's Got Latent' where objectionable jokes were told about parents. After this, FIRs were registered against all of them in Assam as well as many other states.
