Mere Husband Ki Biwi Movie Review: Masala madness of the 90s and a take on divorce and moving on

Film: Mere Husband Ki Biwi

Cast: Arjun Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, Rakul Preet Singh, Harsh Gujjar, Aditya Seal, Shakti Kapoor, etc

Director: Mudassar Aziz

Rating: 4 Moons

Story

It revolves around Ankur Chadda (Arjun Kapoor), his ex-wife Prableen Dhillon (Bhumi Pednekar) and new girlfriend Antara Khanna (Rakul Preet Singh). The Ankur-Prableen marriage has broken down and both move on. In time, Ankur meets Antara, and both fall in love. When they plan to get married, the story takes a major turn. Prableen meets with an accident and loses her memory. She does not remember she is divorced and wants Ankur in her life again. The question is — who gets Ankur? His ex-wife Prableen or girlfriend Antara? The plot is simple, but its interesting twists and comic situations make it an engaging story.

Acting

Arjun Kapoor, back to his ‘2 States’ image, brings his role to life. His acting comes across strongly. Bhumi Pednekar is brilliant and plays her character with confidence and perfect comic timing. Rakul Preet Singh does a good job. The supporting cast also do their bit to add to the great performances all around. Harsh Gujjar, Arjun's best friend, is so apt and on point that you will laugh even during the serious scenes.

Direction

Mudassar Aziz is delightful. He brings back the 1990s’ masala rom-com era by making this film simple and entertaining in a light-hearted manner. It is woven with conflicts, emotional ups and downs and tremendous humor.

Dialogues

The dialogues are really funny. There are many that are completely hilarious. Especially those related to Bhumi's character. The funny lines based on her emotional ups and downs make the audience laugh. But of special praise are Harsh’s dialogues which are so peculiarly on time.

Music

The music matches the mood of the story perfectly. The light-hearted songs balance the emotions and humour. Especially ‘Ikk Vaari’ which is perfect for sangeet performances in the current wedding season. The recreation of ‘Gori Hai Kalaiyaan’ is refreshing and makes you want to dance.

Overall

‘Mere Husband Ki Biwi’ is a masala entertainer for the family. It is a great package of entertainment with healthy doses of laughter, love, and drama. Somewhere is a hidden message that in marriage, there is both love and conflict, and the art of resolving both is important.
