The Malad police have arrested Ashish Sayyal, the office boy of musician Pritam Chakraborty, for stealing money from his studio. Ashish, who worked at the studio, is accused of stealing a bag containing Rs 40 lakh on February 4 and fleeing. According to reports, the police have recovered 95 per cent of the stolen money. The police have recovered Rs 36.91 lakh, a laptop and an iPhone from the accused. The accused has been brought to Mumbai on transit remand.
According to media reports, after the theft, the accused changed several autos and walked for about 10 hours to mislead the police. The police examined more than 200 CCTV footage for eight days and nights and finally tracked him down. The police found out that he had fled to Jammu and Kashmir. After examining hotel and roadside CCTV footage, he was traced to the Samba railway station area in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir. The police informed the local residents about the crime and with the help of the local police, arrested Ashish from Manohar Gopala village. On raiding the accused's house, it was found that he had bought an iPhone with the stolen money.
The incident took place on February 4 at around 2 pm, when an employee of a production house came to Pritam Chakraborty's music studio 'Unimus Records Pvt Ltd', Goregaon. He handed over Rs 40 lakh cash in a bag to Pritam's manager. Ashish Sayyal, Ahmed Khan and Kamal Disha were also present there. The manager put the money in a trolley bag and then went to Pritam's house to sign some documents. When he returned, he saw that the bag was missing. When he contacted Ashish, he did not respond and later his phone was switched off. Suspicious, the manager lodged a complaint with the police, following which a team was formed to nab the accused.
