Bhumi Pednekar expresses fear over 'Hema Committee Report', talks about film industry and pay disparity

The 'Hema Committee Report' created a stir in the Malayalam film industry. This report revealed the exploitation and harassment of women. Now actress Bhumi Pednekar has given her reaction to this report. She said that being a woman, she is scared. Let's know what the actress said about this.

According to PTI, during an event, Bhumi Pednekar said that the report released in August last year was heartbreaking and horrifying. She said, "This is part of Indian society, where very painful and scary things have come to light while following the legal process. Today, being a woman in India, I feel scared. This is not limited to the film industry only."

Bhumi Pednekar further said, "I feel scared when my younger cousin who lives with me in Mumbai goes to college and if she does not return home by 11 pm, I start panicking. There is even a deep distortion of power. The problem is further aggravated when violence against women is reported only on the main page. This is not a one-time incident, it is a regular occurrence." Bhumi also gave her opinion on pay discrimination in Bollywood and said that it happens in every industry across the world. She said, "If the CEO of a big group is a woman, she will undoubtedly get less salary. This pay gap is even more in the film industry."

Bhumi told that she was surprised when she was paid much less than her male co-star for one of her projects. She said, "I was paid only 5 percent of my co-star in that film, even though we both had the same number of hit films. We both were in the lead roles of the film and we started our career together, yet he was paid 80 percent more." On February 21, Bhumi Pednekar, Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh starrer film 'Mere Husband Ki Biwi' was released. Earlier, Bhumi was seen in the film 'Bhakshak'.
