Hansal Mehta calls for a bollywood reset, Urges investment in new talent over stars

Hansal Mehta is one of the top filmmakers and directors of Bollywood. He has always been open about his concerns about the industry, and once again he has taken to social media to raise an important issue. He shared a long post on X, saying that Bollywood needs a reset. He praised the new age actors and appealed to producers and directors to invest in new and emerging talent instead of spending money on already famous stars.

Hansal Mehta wrote that Hindi cinema needs a reset. To those who are predicting doom for Bollywood in the future, I would like to say that the industry is not dying, but it is on its way to becoming a big failure. The problem is not that the audience is losing interest, but the problem is that money is being invested on safe and predetermined things. The future of Hindi cinema will be better by trusting new talent, bold storytellers and directors who can direct the script in the best way. The last few years have proven that it's not just stars that draw audiences, it's conviction and passion that draws them in.

He further added that a new generation of actors, filmmakers and writers are ready to change the game, but it requires visionary producers who focus on story rather than numbers, platforms that push good stories rather than numbers, and directors who demand integrity rather than recognition. It requires discipline, a good presentation strategy, and thoughtful marketing, not the usual, money-laden publicity strategy that makes publicists rich but the industry very poor.

Hansal praised several new-age actors like Vedang Raina, Adarsh Gourav, Ishaan Khatter and Lakshya. He further added that what is missing is conviction, investment and patience. Stop chasing weekend box office numbers and start developing talent that can engage audiences for years. The platforms have the data, now just learn to trust the talent. The actor should be selected based on the role, skill and depth, not just their introduction.
