Saif Ali Khan stabbing case: Mumbai Police present forensic evidence, Oppose accused’s bail plea

Mumbai Police on Friday opposed the bail plea of Sharif-ul-Islam Shahzad Fakir, accused of attacking actor Saif Ali Khan. Sharif was arrested in January when he allegedly barged into Saif Ali Khan's Bandra house and attacked him with a knife.

In its written report filed in the court, the police said that the knife fragment found near Saif Ali Khan's spine matches the fragment found at the scene and the knife recovered from the accused. Police said that all these three fragments belong to the same weapon with which the actor was attacked.

This information was given in the reply submitted to the court citing the report of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). The report said that all the three fragments were examined by a medical officer, who confirmed that all the fragments belonged to the same knife. Apart from this, all the three pieces have been sent to the FSL for chemical analysis so that they can be included in the charge sheet as concrete evidence. The police said that they have strong evidence against the accused and a charge sheet will be filed against him soon.

On the other hand, advocate Ajay Gawli, on behalf of the accused, filed a bail plea claiming that the FIR lodged is false and his client has been framed. The plea said that the investigation of the case is almost complete and only the chargesheet is yet to be filed. The accused is cooperating in the investigation and there is no justification for keeping him in custody further. Now the next hearing of this case will be on April 9.
