Kunal Kamra skips third police summons in Eknath Shinde Remarks case, Sites free speech

Bollywood's famous stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra is once again in the headlines. Despite being summoned for the third time by the Mumbai Police, he did not appear for questioning on time. A senior police officer has confirmed this. The matter is related to the objectionable remarks made on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Khar police have registered a case against Kunal Kamra on the complaint of Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel. The complaint states that Kunal used objectionable and derogatory language against Eknath Shinde in his show. In a video, Kunal had satirized Shinde regarding the rebellion in Shiv Sena in 2022. The video went viral on social media on March 23, after which Shinde supporters vandalized the studio and hotel in Khar where the show was recorded.

The police had called Kunal for questioning on April 5, which was the third summons. Earlier, after the second summons, the Khar police team reached his house in Mahim, but he was not found there. Kunal has taken interim bail from Madras High Court till 7th April to avoid arrest.

Three FIRs are also registered against Kunal in Nashik Rural, Jalgaon and Nashik (Nandgaon). All these cases have now been transferred to Khar Police Station. Police say that Kunal is deliberately avoiding investigation and is not cooperating. On the other hand, Kunal Kamra has said that this whole matter is related to freedom of expression. He says that humor is being seen as a crime and his words are being misrepresented.
