Film director Siddhanta Das causes fatal accident in Kolkata, Kills one and injures eight

In a tragic road accident in Kolkata's Thakurpukur area on Sunday, film and television director Siddhanta Das killed one person and severely injured eight others when he rammed his car into a crowded market at a high speed. The incident took place around 9 am on Sunday.

According to a report in Times of India, 35-year-old Siddhanta Das was travelling from Bakrahat to Gariahat when he lost control of his car and it ran over street vendors and pedestrians buying fruits and vegetables. The car finally stopped after hitting a parked scooter. Locals immediately informed the police and pulled Siddhanta Das out of the car and started beating him. Das was arrested before the police arrived. Four bottles of liquor were recovered from the car. Siddhanta Das was accompanied by two women, one of whom was arrested while the other woman who was sitting in the backseat fled from the spot.

In the accident, 63-year-old Alimur Rahman, a vegetable vendor, died. He suffered serious injuries and could not be saved despite being admitted to the hospital. 68-year-old Jaydeb Majumdar is also seriously injured and his condition remains critical. According to locals, road construction work was going on in the area and only light vehicles of local residents could ply on this route. Das broke those barricades and drove his car into the crowded market. Several vehicles and two-wheelers were also damaged in the accident.

Seven other people were given first aid and were discharged from the hospital the same day. The accident created a lot of panic in the area and has also sent a wave of grief in the film industry.
