Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep condolences on the demise of veteran actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar. He expressed his condolences by writing an emotional letter to Manoj Kumar's wife Shashi Goswami. In the letter, the Prime Minister not only recalled his meetings with the actor but also praised his contribution to Indian cinema and patriotism.
Prime Minister Modi wrote in the letter, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of Shri Manoj Kumar ji. My condolences are with his family and well-wishers in this difficult time. This great actor and filmmaker presented Indian pride in a very impressive way through his films. Many of his films strengthened the feeling of patriotism among the people. The songs of his films which were based on Indian culture and values reflect love and dedication towards the country. People will always remember and hum him.”
The Prime Minister further wrote, “My meetings with Shri Manoj Kumar ji and thoughtful conversations with him will always remain in my memories. The work he has done will continue to inspire generations to work for the country and society. His demise is an irreparable loss for the film industry.”
Manoj Kumar passed away on 4 April at 4:03 am at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai due to prolonged illness. The news of his demise sent a wave of mourning across the country. He was known as 'Bharat Kumar' for his patriotic films like 'Upkaar', 'Purab Aur Paschim', 'Shaheed'. His contribution to Indian cinema will always remain invaluable and unforgettable.
