Randeep Hooda reveals he rejected “Rang De Basanti” due to his 'Jaat Akad': "Won’t stand behind Aamir Khan"

Randeep Hooda, who is known for his powerful acting, recently opened up about a big mistake related to his career in a podcast. He told how a suggestion from director Ram Gopal Varma made him walk away from a film that could have taken his career to a different level. He still regrets this decision.

Randeep said that he had got an offer to play the role of Bhagat Singh in the film 'Rang De Basanti'. He had also auditioned for it and director Rakesh Omprakash Mehra also liked his performance. Randeep said, "If I had done Rang De Basanti, I would have been in a different league today." He also shared that Rakesh Mehra used to meet him many times and even in a drunken state while driving, he used to say, "Kar le, kar le picture kar le."

However, during this time Ram Gopal Varma had promised him the lead role in the film 'D'. Verma said to Randeep, ‘I’m thinking of casting you in the lead role in D, and you want to go stand behind Aamir in the poster?’ Meri Jaat akad nikal aayi (My Jaat arrogance came up), and I said, ‘I won’t stand behind Aamir.”

Not only this, Randeep also turned down Farhan Akhtar's film 'Rock On' for similar reasons. When he was asked why he left such big projects, he replied, "I’ve always worked with slightly different kinds of filmmakers and producers, not the industry insiders—maybe that’s why my growth was slower. I used to think I was enough and that craft was everything, but that’s not the case.”

It is worth noting that the film 'Rang De Basanti' released in 2006 received tremendous appreciation. This film was not only a hit at the box office, but it also won the National Award and was also selected as the official entry for Oscar from India. Randeep still considers turning down this film as the biggest mistake of his career.
