Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, actress Ananya Panday and filmmaker Karan Johar have expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for highlighting the valour of advocate Sankaran Nair. The PM recalled Nair's bravery and contribution during a public gathering in Haryana on April 14.
Addressing a public gathering in Yamunanagar, PM Modi said, 'Yesterday the whole country celebrated Baisakhi, but it also marked 106 years of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. We pay tribute to those who lost their lives in this massacre. There is another aspect of it, which was thrown into the dark. This aspect is of the strong spirit of standing with humanity, with the country. The name of this spirit is Shankaran Nair.' Not many people know him, but a lot is being talked about him recently. He was a famous lawyer and held a very high position during the British era in those days.'
Akshay Kumar lauded the PM's move and tweeted, "Thank you PM @narendramodi ji for remembering the great Chettur Sankaran Nair ji and his contribution to our freedom struggle. It is very important that we as a nation, especially the younger generation, value the great women and men who fought bravely to ensure that we breathe in a free country." He added, "Our Kesari Chapter 2 is a humble attempt to remind everyone that we should never take our freedom for granted." Earlier today, the Prime Minister lauded Kerala-born lawyer Chettur Shankaran Nair for bravely fighting against the British after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
Karan Johar also thanked Prime Minister Modi and said, "Thank you to our honourable PM Modi ji for shedding light on some of our unsung heroes of our Indian freedom, specifically C. Sankaran Nair whose story remains unheard, untold & unread by so many of our citizens. We are looking forward to Indians discover another chapter of the freedom of India through the lens of our film Kesari”
Actress Ananya Panday also thanked Prime Minister Modi and wrote, "Thank you Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji for remembering the great Chettur Sankaran Nair ji and his contribution to our freedom struggle. It is so important that we as a nation, especially the younger generation, value the great women and men who fought valiantly to ensure that we breathe in a free country! Our Kesari Chapter 2, is a humble effort to remind everyone that we must never take our freedom for granted!"
Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday and R. Madhavan starrer 'Kesari Chapter 2' is all set to release in theatres on 18th April 2025. The film is based on the courageous legal battle of advocate C. Sankaran Nair, who stood up against the British Empire after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The film is directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, and produced by Dharma Productions, Cape of Good Films and Leo Media Collective.
