Shoojit Sircar expresses concern over Bollywood's decline: Calls for creative risks and Reconsideration of Actor Fees

In the first three months of 2025, only one big film 'Chhaava' has been released in Bollywood, which is a matter of concern for the industry. Director Shoojit Sarkar has expressed his concern on this. In a conversation with ANI, Shoojit Sarkar highlighted the reasons for the failure of films and the audience not coming to theaters. He said, "Directors and producers are not taking risks creatively. When it comes to storytelling, old narratives should not be repeated. There is a need to bring something new, a practical subject, no matter what genre it is."

Apart from this, Shoojit Sarkar also expressed concern over the fees of Bollywood stars. He suggested, "Some popular actors should reconsider their fees, or else they might lose opportunities. If they don't, directors will stop approaching them." Talking about his production house 'Rising Sun Films', Shoojit Sircar said, "We have never allowed the cost to go up. That's why we get fewer complaints. We have worked with actors who understand that they are working in a Shoojit Sircar film and the cost will not go up."

Shoojit Sircar's film 'I Want To Talk', starring Abhishek Bachchan in the lead role, grossed only 1.25 crore at the box office, which was a major disappointment. However, the film has received a positive response on OTT platforms, indicating that audiences are now watching films on digital mediums rather than in theatres. Shoojit Sarkar believes that filmmakers should focus on their creativity and believe in their story and vision rather than relying on audience acceptance.
