Not Kartik Aaryan, Sushant Singh Rajput was first choice for 'Chandu Champion', reveals actor

The film Chandu Champion released in 2024 made a special place in the hearts of the audience. Actor Kartik Aaryan, who played the lead role in this film, was praised for his brilliant acting. But do you know that Kartik Aaryan was not the first choice for this character? Actually, this role was earlier in the part of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

Actor Bhuvan Arora, who played the character of Muralikant Petkar in the film, revealed this in an interview. He said that at the beginning of the film, Sushant Singh Rajput had the rights to the biopic of Muralikant Petkar. Bhuvan said, "Once I met Sushant at the airport. During that time he told me that he was going to do a film based on a Paralympic swimmer." This film was later released as *Chandu Champion.

Sushant had described the story of Murlikant Petkar as inspirational in 2016 and expressed his desire to make a film on it. Unfortunately, this dream remained unfulfilled after his death. The film's producers Kabir Khan and Sajid Nadiadwala entrusted Kartik Aryan with the task of fulfilling this unfulfilled dream. Kartik worked hard for this role. He did a thorough study to understand the life of Murlikant Petkar and also prepared himself physically. In this film, he shot an eight-minute long war scene without cuts, which shows his hard work and dedication.

Chandu Champion depicts the inspirational journey of Murlikant Petkar, who won a gold medal in the 1972 Paralympics even after being injured in the 1965 Indo-Pak War. The film is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video, where viewers can watch it without any charge. Thus, Kartik Aaryan fulfilled Sushant Singh Rajput's unfulfilled dream and brought the inspiring story of Murlikant Petkar alive on the big screen.
