Many users tweeted, “Abir Gulaal will not be allowed to be released in any theatre in India.” Another questioned, “Will we still allow films made with Pakistani artists to be screened in India?”

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has also protested against the film. The party has reiterated its old stand and said that Pakistani artists should not be allowed to work in India. The party has warned distributors and theatre owners across the state not to release this film, otherwise they will have to face the consequences.
