This has to be a record of sorts. Dharma Productions will release the trailers of two of its biggest 2019 releases in one week. On Wednesday, it was Kalank. People are still talking about how emotionally stirring the trailer of the Abhishek Varman film presented by the lead actors Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt was. And next Friday, April 12, Dharma Production’s going to be presenting the much-awaited trailer of its Punit Malhotra directorial Student of The Year 2.
Another production house busy with the release of a massive, multi-cast period drama like Kalank (April 17) also starring Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur and Kunal Khemu, would have stalled the trailer of another big release like its romantic campus comedy SOTY 2 starring Tiger Shroff and Bollywood debutantes Tara Sutaria and Ananya Pandey. But not the young and energetic team of Dharma Productions.
Karan Johar, who was in Singapore for the release of his Madame Tussauds waxwork on Wednesday and passed on the Kalank baton to protégés Alia and Varun, is back today and will be presenting the SOTY 2 trailer next Friday. Bollywood will be hoping that along with its cast, KJo will invite the original SOTY (2012) debutantes Alia, Varun and Siddharth Malhotra to share the platform with Tiger, Tara, Ananya and him on April 12.
There is much excitement over SOTY 2 already. Fans of the film that’s becoming a franchise for Dharma Productions are wondering whether Hollywood superstar and KJo friend Will Smith will play a cameo in the romantic comedy and sensationally make his Bollywood debut with the film. It has been the subject in the media for several months, now.
Smith, who was in Mumbai last year, crossed out one item from his bucket list by dancing to a Bollywood number on the sets of SOTY 2 in Andheri. That number was the rollicking Radha Teri Chunri and Smith called upon his signature hip hop moves because he was dancing alongside Bollywood’s best – Tiger Shroff, and the lovely Tara and Ananya. Perhaps the trailer next Friday will reveal whether Will Smith will be Hollywood’s big export to Bollywood.
