Exclusive: ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’ sequel is a gay story but Bhumi Pednekar may not join Ayushmann Khurrana!

The 2017 comedy-drama Shubh Mangal Saavdhan is getting a sequel but there’s no understanding yet whether Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar will be the lead pair as in that commercial and critical success.PeepingMoon.com sources reveal that Aanand L Rai is working on the second part and while Ayushmann will certainly be in it, Bhumi might not be a part of the sequel.

While the first film tackled the issue of erectile dysfunction and the sexual and social taboos associated with it, the sequel will be a gay story. It will be titled Shubh Mangal Zyaada Saavdhan and will show how a father accepts his son is gay, our sources informed. Further, Divyendu Sharma who played Akshay Kumar’s brother in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and was last seen as Munna Bhaiya in the Amazon Prime series Mirzapur has been roped in to play a pivotal character. Sharma is expected to portray Ayushmann’s gay partner in the film that goes on floors in September.

However, R. S. Prasanna who made his directorial debut with the original will not be helming the sequel. PeepingMoon.com has learned that writer Hitesh Kewalya has come on board as director and will present the topic by carefully balancing the comedy and correctness.

Apparently, Prasanna is working on a film by Siddharth Roy Kapur which would have made him unavailable for the sequel and hence Aanand decided to get a new director instead of waiting for him. Hitesh has worked on both stories and is aware of all the little details so he was the right choice to helm this project. Ayushmann will start shooting once he’s done with all his work commitments.
