We told you first that Shoojit Sircar had cobbled together an interesting cast by bringing together Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana for the first time in his next film being written by Juhi Chaturvedi. When we broke that story it was not known whether Shoojit would direct the film or just produce it. The title of this film, too, was not known. But since then, Shoojit announced it and the world now knows his directorial will be a quirky comedy titled Gulabo Sitabo.
Now sleuthing PeepingMoon.com sources have succeeded in bringing more exclusive details of the film. Gulabo Sitabo is believed to be about landlords and tenants and deals with their love-hate relationship. The film portrays the quarrels between the domineering landowner and submissive renter, played by Bachchan and Khurrana respectively.
Set in Lucknow, the film is expected to be a laughter-riot filled with local humour and prurient and caustic jokes. What’s more, it will have songs relating to shared incidents and the variations of daily life making it a fun watch. Our sources reveal Gulabo Sitabo will be shot in one two-months’ schedule. Shoojit who is shooting his Uddham Singh biopic in Russia will reportedly stall this Vicky Kaushal starrer after the first schedule and take up Gulabo Sitabo from June onwards. Only after it’s wrapped will he return to the biopic.
Produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar, Gulabo Sitabo is scheduled to release in November this year. “Juhi and I have been working on this script for a while now. We all know whenever she comes up with a story, it has her trademark quirk in it. As soon as I read it, I was extremely excited and shared it with Ronnie, my dear friend and producer, and to both Mr. Bachchan and Ayushmann at the same time. I thought it would take some time to develop and proceed but everyone including the duo were so enthusiastic to do this script that they figured their dates and here we are, planning to release it this year itself,” Shoojit said in his statement while announcing the film.
