Aanand L Rai who's keeping a low profile post the disastrous debacle of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Zero has started working on his next. The filmmaker has locked in South superstar Dhanush and Sara Ali Khan as the fresh romantic pair and is expected to kick off the shooting in December or January 2020.
Now, Peepingmoon.com has learned that Aanand's next directorial will most likely be the sequel to one of his most loved films, Raanjhanaa. The original romantic drama which marked Dhanush's Bollywood debut is considered as one of the best love stories in recent times and was a huge hit at the box office back in 2013. Six years later, Aanand has reportedly brought back Dhanush in yet another romantic avatar and hopes to get the same love all over again.
"It's not exactly a sequel that takes the story forward like Aanand's own Tanu Weds Manu franchise but the theme of his new film is very similar to Raanjhanaa. Even with a different story and new characters, it has all the elements that Raanjhanaa had and hence they are planning to name it as Raanjhanaa 2. Just like the Sonam Kapoor starrer, this film will also be set in North India and will have an intriguing plot filled with humour and earthiness," a source close to the development told us.
The film was also rumoured to have Hrithik Roshan playing the lead alongside Dhanush and Sara but that, our sources claim, is not true at all. "Hrithik has not even been offered this film. Only Dhanush and Sara have been finalized so far and a formidable ensemble cast is being brought on board for supporting roles," the source clarified further adding that Aanand will produce the film along with T-Series' Bhushan Kumar. The official announcement is expected to arrive in a several weeks.
