YRF last night announced that the trailer of its Rani Mukerji crime thriller sequel Mardaani 2 would be released this morning. Fans of the gorgeous actress, who was last seen in Maneesh Sharma’s comedy drama Hichki in March 2018, will naturally be excited. Rani as the gutsy Crime Branch cop Shivani Shivaji Roy in the Pradeep Sarkar-directed Mardaani (2014) was as exciting as, well, Ajay Devgn in Singham and Salman Khan in Dabangg. And now its sequel, directed by Gopi Puthran and produced by Aditya Chopra, is ready for a December 13 release.
As in the first part, where YRF brought in Tahir Raj Bhasin (Ka Po Che, One By Two) as the villain who scaled new heights of debauchery with child trafficking, this time too the sequel will introduce a relatively new face as its villain. PeepingMoon.com has exclusively learned that the baddie locking horns with Rani this time round is TV actor Vishal Jethwa who is best known for playing Emperor Akbar in Sony’s Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap. Vishal did a number of roles after that on TV. The most recent being that of Lord Krishna in BIG Magic’s Chakradhari Ajay Krishna. Vishal apparently impressed Aditya Chopra enough to bag the role of the 21-year-old villain in Mardaani 2 who is pure evil.

Indications are Vishal’s role as the principal baddie is a deadly and perplexing one and in the trailer, he will not be seen but his voice will chillingly be heard. YRF has taken great pains to keep this new star under wraps.
TV actors staking claim to roles in Bollywood films began after Salman Khan started the trend in 2014 with Jai Ho in which he introduced small screen stars Pulkit Samrat, Sana Khan, Yash Tonk, Tulip Joshi and Varun Badola among others. But this is the first time that a TV actor is getting a major role in a big ticket production under a huge banner like YRF.
