Just when you thought Aanand L Rai would not get over the debacle of his Shah Rukh Khan romcom Zero of December 2018, the filmmaker is back in action with two films in hand. The first is the murder mystery Haseen Dillruba, announced last month, that Aanand is producing. It will star Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey who is Bollywood’s new flavour of the season. However, it is the second film of Aanand’s that has got everybody excited. It marks Aanand’s return to direction after Zero and has an eclectic cast including Bollywood’s most successful actor of 2019 Akshay Kumar, two-film-old Sara Ali Khan and South superstar Dhanush.
How Aanand has managed this casting coup is not known. But the Bollywood grapevine was buzzing this afternoon with the news that the director who gave such hits as Tanu Weds Manu in 2011 and then followed it with a sequel Tanu Weds Manu Returns in 2015, is back to direction after Zero. In between both of those, Aanand produced eight films including commercial successes and critically acclaimed ones like Shubh Mangal Saavdhan and Tumbbad respectively. Now he’s going to be working with Akshay for the first time and Bollywood is keen on knowing what the filmmaker and superstar are collaborating on.

PeepingMoon.com has figured out from sources in the yet-to-be-titled project that Aanand already had Sara and Dhanush on board which in itself was an unusual and intriguing casting. And then, like every other Bollywood director wanting to work with Akshay today, he tentatively approached the busy superstar. Aanand need not have worried. Akshay reportedly likes the story. What perhaps also appealed to the actor was that his was a guest appearance in the film only for which, given his breathtaking schedule, he would not have to shoot for long. Akshay already has Laxmmi Bomb, Sooryavanshi, Prithviraj and Bachchan Pandey lined up for 2020. And he’s going to start 2021 with Bellbottom. Add to that Aanand’s project that has followers of his cinema glad he’s back to direction again.
