PeepingMoon Exclusive: SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment signs Arjun Kapoor for crime thriller

You have to hand it to Shah Rukh Khan. The Bollywood Badshah has not yet decided what film he wants to act in next. But as a producer, his company Red Chillies Entertainment is belting out one film after another speedily. Kaamyaab, the Sanjay Mishra starrer about a character actor who was an ‘extra’ in the 80s, releases tomorrow. And the Abhishek Bachchan-Chitrangada Singh starrer Bob Biswas, a Kahani spinoff, will follow later in 2020. Now PeepingMoon.com has learned that SRK has okayed a real life-based thriller for which he’s signed on Arjun Kapoor to play the lead.

Arjun, who was last seen in Ashutosh Gowariker’s historical epic Panipat, will reportedly be seen playing a cop in this yet-untitled crime drama. The film is said to be based on the Muzzafarpur shelter home case that came to light in 2018 and is regarded as one of the most horrifying scandals in India. It refers to a shelter home where cases of sexual abuse, rape and torture were reported.

Of the 42 girls who were housed there, 34 inmates aged between 7 and 17 were found undergoing sexual and physical assault for months. The horrific details of the case prompted outrage and nationwide protests after which the CBI took over the investigation. A Delhi court recently convicted 19 persons, including prime accused Brajesh Thakur, for aggravated sexual assault and gang-rape.

Pulkit, who helmed Alt Balaji’s Rajkummar Rao web-series Bose: Dead or Alive, has come on board to direct it. He has already started pre-production and will begin shooting next month. All modalities have been completed and the film will be announced in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, Arjun is gearing up for the release of his much-delayed Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar on March 20. He has also completed shooting for Nikkhil Advani’s coming-of-age, cross-border love story where he’s paired opposite Rakul Preet. Red Chillies Entertainment has two web projects, Class of 83 and Betaal, also scheduled to come out on Netflix later this year.
