More deadly than the Coronavirus threat that looms large and ominously over India, is the fake news floating around about the “final” release date of 2020’s most anticipated Bollywood film. According to some Bollywood sites, Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi that was to hit the screens on March 24, will now release for Eid on May 22 alongside Salman Khan’s Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai. It got pushed because of the Coronavirus scare and the government’s diktat to shut all theatres in the country.
Where this news about Sooryavanshi’s “final” release date has come from is not clear. But PeepingMoon.com can authoritatively say it is not true. The makers of the cop universe actioner, filmmakers Rohit Shetty and Karan Johar, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, and production company Reliance Entertainment have not issued any release date for Sooryavanshi as yet. So there is no question of a fresh date being planned explicitly so that their film will clash with Salman’s Eid 2020 release – Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai.
On the contrary, the Sooryavanshi makers are raring to go and eager to release the film as soon as the Coronavirus threat passes away and the blanket ban on theatres, malls, gyms, swimming pools, parks, beaches and gardens is lifted. While there’s no telling when exactly that will happen, Bollywood trade pundits are hopeful it will be in early April. As far as Akshay and Salman go, their Eid clash is still the former’s Laxmmi Bomb vs. the latter’s Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai.
