Don’t know how far this is true, but Janhvi Kapoor’s exciting biopic Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl that was to release on March 20, is likely to have a web release soon because of the uncertainty of screens opening even after the Covid-19 lockdown is lifted. The film, in which Janhvi plays former Indian Air Force fighter pilot Gunjan Saxena, is produced by Dharma Productions and Zee Studios. PeepingMoon.com has learned that there is the strong possibility of Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl streaming on OTT giant Netflix.
“At this point of time,” said a trade source, “the only two Bollywood films certain to have a big-screen release whenever are Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi and Ranveer Singh’s 83. Every other film is in consideration or talks for web releases including Janhvi’s biopic.
This must come as a bit of a blow to the young actress because Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is only Janhvi’s second Bollywood film after Dhadak two years ago. She had shared several pictures during the shoot of the film and wrote an emotional post on social media to announce the wrap.
The shooting of Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (directed by Sharan Sharma) started last year in Lucknow. The film is also shot in Georgia and co-stars Pankaj Tripathi as Gunjan Saxena’s father and Angad Bedi as her brother. Gunjan Saxena played a pivotal role in the Kargil War of 1999. She made history when she flew into the combat zone during the war in a Cheetah helicopter, dodging missiles and bullets, and evacuated injured soldiers.
