With no clarity on when theatres are reopening owing to the increasing cases of COVID-19, OTT platforms have become the go-to option for Bollywood filmmakers. Unwilling to wait for normalcy to return, many producers are opting to release their films directly on streaming platforms bypassing the regional theatrical window. And the list of the movies directly streaming on OTT is getting longer day-by-day.
Peepingmoon.com has learned that Vikrant Massey's and Yami Gautam's wedding drama, Ginny Weds Sunny is the latest to have decided to go for direct digital streaming. The light-hearted film has been sold to a premium OTT platform and will soon be announced with a premiere date. Believed to be a slightly unique take on new-age romance, the film was apparently shot last year itself and was targeting a March 2020 release before the coronavirus came and put everything into a standstill.
Said to be exploring modern relationships in which the understanding of love sinks in late, Ginny Weds Sunny revolves around a boy falling in love with a girl, who's not ready to tie the knot because she has certain aspirations. Things take a turn when Sunny tries to win Ginny with her mother's support. Vikrant plays an innocent and endearing amateur chef and will have a typical Delhi accent while Yami will be seen essaying a bubbly, pretty, energetic but no-nonsense entrepreneur character in this film, written by Navjot Gulati and Sumit Aroraa.
Shot at real locations in Noida, Ghaziabad and Karnal, the film marks the directorial debut of Puneet Khanna, who has previously assisted filmmakers like Ashutosh Gowariker (Jodhaa Akbar), Farhan Akhtar (Don) and Zoya Akhtar (Luck By Chance) among others. Producer Vinod Bachchan of Soundrya Productions banner is producing this film which, interestingly, also completes his marriage films trio after the successes of Tanu Weds Manu and Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana.
