Filmmaker Shaad Ali was all geared up to direct Diljit Dosanjh and Yami Gautam in his next quirky rom-com. The director had begun the pre-production and had planned to kick off the shooting mid-October in Nainital. However, the mad-cap family entertainer seems to have hit a roadblock as Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Diljit has backed out of the project due to creative differences.
"The film talks about the subject of male pregnancy and considering the sensitiveness of the topic Diljit wanted the film to deal with it in a certain way. He was excited when Shaad narrated this idea to him a few months back and immediately gave his nod. However, he was disappointed when he read the final draft of the script recently. Diljit was not happy with the way the movie's script has shaped up and felt Shaad's narrative would face backlash from the religious bodies. It was not how he had envisioned the project and hence decided to back out of it," a source close to the development said.
Diljit's last-minute exit, however, has left Shaad Ali and the producers in a fix. The director is said to be still trying to get the Punjabi heartthrob back on board but sources say it's very unlikely that he will do this film anymore. Yami Gautam is believed to be still committed to the film but it's yet unclear if the film will even happen now.
Sources also claim that Shaad Ali is now planning to put this film on the back burner and dive into the preparation of his next web-series. The director, as we exclusively told you last week, is working on the adaptation of Netflix's popular French series, Call My Agent for Applause Entertainment and Banijay Asia. The Hindi adaptation is already in the final draft stage and will be ready in a month. The director, if all goes well, will start shooting for the series in January 2021!
