There is good news and, well, not so good news for Dubai which has excitedly geared itself for the mega music launch of S. Shankar’s 2.0 at the Burj Park on Friday. The good news, of course, is that South legend Rajnikanth and Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar are going to be there. Along with music maestro A. R. Rahman and Bollywood’s import Amy Jackson. Plus Karan Johar as master of ceremonies. The bad news is that neither Rajnikanth nor Akshay, who are known to be energetic dancers on screen, will be performing live for their Dubai fans. The music launch will have their presence but not their performances.
Rahman will perform live, fortunately, and there will be a team of 30 dancers moving to the composer’s beat. The Dubai show will hinge on a romantic track titled Uri Ye from 2.0 which is featured on Rajnikanth and Amy in the sci-fi drama. However, only Amy will dance for this live. The Thalaiva will watch from among the elite audience of Dubai. The album has five songs which will all be released that day but onlyUri Ye will be performed live. The dancers, 15 Indian boys, and 15 foreign girls have been rehearsing their steps for the show in Chennai for a month. Out of which the rehearsals for Uri Ye itself took 12 days. There is going to be three dance acts in all.
Sources say that the 2.0 music launch is going to be on a scale of extravagance that even Dubai is not accustomed to. Both, Rajnikanth and Akshay are big draws in the Emirate city and the Burj Park will be packed to capacity with their fans on Friday. The sequel to Shankar’s 2010 super hit Robot will see Rajnikanth reprising his double role as Dr. Vaseegaran and Chitti. Akshay, who plays the alien baddie Dr. Richard, and Amy are the new additions to the franchise. The film, which was simultaneously shot in Tamil and Hindi at the cost of Rs. 450 crore, will go down in history as the most expensive made in Indian cinema. It will be released in 15 languages in January 2018. This will also be Akshay’s first film for the South.
