Ranveer treats Padmavati unit to Lucknowi Biryani on last day as Allaudin Khilji

It was an emotional upheaval for the stars of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati as they came to the end of their respective shoots for the period drama. Deepika Padukone, who plays Rani Padmavati in the film, chose to say her goodbye to the entire unit on October 31 by ordering a sumptuous vegetarian South Indian meal on the Film City sets. Yesterday, it was Ranveer Singh’s turn.

The actor, who plays the baddie Allaudin Khilji in the film, finished his last day on the sets by calling for Lucknowi Dum Biryani for the team. Ranveer is a Sindhi. But instead of getting Sindhi food for the unit from home, the actor ordered the biryani from a famous Mughlai cuisine caterer in the city. Sources from the set report that Bhansali cheated on his diet to tuck into the biryani.

Ranveer, who has been living Allaudin Khilji’s character for the past year and a half, was overly emotional when it came to shedding the skin of this character. Sources say the actor was very attached to Allaudin Khilji and got emotional at the parting. Ranveer is reportedly “dying” to see what the film looks like. But Bhansali never allows any of his cast to see an unfinished product. He is quite firm about who sees the edited portions too.

Meanwhile, the Padmavati unit is wondering why Shahid Kapoor, who plays Maharana Rawal Ratan Singh in the film, didn’t treat everyone to lunch or dinner like Deepika and Ranveer did. “Shahid finished his shoot weeks ago but his exit from the sets on the last day was a very silent one,” said sources. This is the first time that Bhansali and Shahid are working together in a film, and also Shahid with Deepika and Ranveer respectively, and though Bhansali is known to create a special bond with the people he works with, it looks like the filmmaker failed to develop the same with Shahid during the making of Padmavati.
