The boom of OTT platforms has been a blessing in disguise for Jimmy Sheirgill. The Punjabi superstar who has had mostly been typecast in comic roles in typical Bollywood movies is getting diverse roles to explore in the digital ventures. And this seems to be the reason he has signed one more web project. Peepingmoon.com has learned that Sheirgill is next doing a Hotstar film, titled Collar Bomb.
The web film is said to be a thriller set in Himachal and will see Sheirgill playing the role of a glorified cop whose life is thrown into chaos as he is forced to commit a series of heinous crimes before a suicide bomber blows up a school. Produced under the banners of Yoodlee Films and 3 Earth Entertainment, the film is currently being shot in Shimla and is expected to be wrapped up by next week. Television actress Asha Negi and Jamtara: Sabka Number Aayega fame Sparsh Shrivastava also star, however, the details of their characters haven't been revealed yet.
Dnyanesh Zoting who's earlier made the critically acclaimed adventure drama, Raakshas (2018) is directing the film while Nikhil Nair of Nawazuddin Siddiqui's Serious Men fame has written the screenplay. The film is believed to be discursively inspired by Pennsylvania's most infamous heist — The Collar Bomb case. In the high-profile 2003 crime, a middle-aged pizza deliveryman was murdered during a diabolical plot involving a bank robbery, scavenger hunt, and homemade explosive device near his hometown. Following an attempt to rob a PNC Bank, and while surrounded by police, he was murdered when an explosive collar locked to his neck detonated. The incident that was shown live on television reportedly led police on a dead-end scavenger hunt.
Collar Bomb will be Jimmy Sheirgill's third web project and the first one to release next year. He made his web debut as a gangster Amarpal Singh in last year's Zee5 show, Rangbaaz Phirse that chronicles his rise to becoming the most wanted criminal in the history of Rajasthan. He returned this year during the lockdown with SonyLIV's Your Honor where he essayed the role of a scrupulous judge who sacrifices relationships and subverts the law to save his son from a vengeful gangster. Sheirgill was also doing a thriller series for Gaurang Doshi's banner but that has been put on the back burner after its UAE financiers backed out at the last moment.
