Unmindful of the fact that most of Bollywood has deserted Mumbai for cooler climes in foreign shores to bring in 2018, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have decided to stay put in the city and ring in the New Year here. For some reason, stars big and small prefer celebrating the New Year far away from home, unless work keeps them back. There are, of course, exceptions. Salman and SRK are two. However, the third of this triumvirate of Bollywood Khans, Aamir Khan, is not going to be here. Taking a break from YRF’s shoot of Thugs of Hindostan, Aamir will see 2017’s last sunset somewhere in Goa.
Actually, everybody expected Salman to do that, celebrated New Year in Goa that is. The Bhai of the Khandaan last year bought a bungalow in Goa that the family has not yet properly holidayed at. This would have been the right time and proper opportunity. Salman not only registered the biggest Bollywood hit of the year with Tiger Zinda Hai last week but he also turned 52 on Wednesday and this would have been the perfect celebration for the actor and his close-knit family. However, Salman can be notoriously lazy at times and he has expressed the view that after his birthday, New Year too would be best spent at the family farmhouse in Panvel.

Shah Rukh, meanwhile, is not taking a chartered plane full of family and friends to his envious home in Dubai for December 31st. This year the Bollywood Badshah has chosen to be in Mumbai for New Year for the simple reason that his children Aryan and Suhana are down from their foreign varsities for the winter break and the family would like to bond together at their home Mannat. Bollywood’s other Khans, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, are creatures of habit. This year too they are headed for Gstaad in the Swiss Alps. However, this time the upscale resort town known to be a holiday destination for royalty and celebrities, will be graced by the presence of Kareena and Saif Ali Khan’s year-old-baccha Taimur. Gstaad with its soaring mountains, prestigious boarding schools, skiing areas and cross-country trails will never be the same!
