With the huge impact she made in Dhadak, her debut film, Janhvi Kapoor has overnight become the hot new property in Bollywood. And several directors are scrambling for scripts that can take in the young actress. Leading the pack is said to be Shashank Khaitan who directed Janhvi and Ishaan Khatter in Dhadak. The director, who trained at Subhash Ghai’s Whistling Woods International Institute and then assisted the filmmaker as assistant director on his films Black & White and Yuvraaj, is said to be eager to cast Janhvi for another film.
Buzz is that Shashank, who first directed the Varun Dhawan-Alia Bhatt starrer Humpty Dumpty Ki Dulhania for Dharma Productions in 2014 and then their Badrinath Ki Dulhania in 2017, is believed to be keen to cast Janhvi in his fourth film for Karan Johar’s production house. This is the upcoming revenge drama Rannbhoomi that KJo grandly announced as his Diwali 2020 release starring his Student of The Year debutant Varun. When he took to Twitter in February to announce Rannbhoomi, KJo had shared a picture with his director and actor and said, “Shashank and Varun take a giant leap in their third offering together. A solid spectacle with a beating heart! Remaining lead cast to be announced soon.”

It’s been five months since but the female lead of Rannbhoomi has not yet been announced. There had been wild speculation that Shashank and KJo might cast Alia again in this film because her pairing with Varun had proved to be successful before. But that buzz soon died down. And while Shashank went on to give statements like “Rannbhoomi is a warrior film, which showcases love, relationships, sacrifices, revenge, and heroism”, the director was not forthcoming with who the female lead opposite Varun was going to be. Now there is talk that Shashank cannot get over Janhvi’s tremendous performance in Dhadak and wants to cast her in Rannbhoomi too. Will Karan Johar agree?
