EXCLUSIVE: Sunny Deol’s Si3 remake on hold?

After completing the shoot of his Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas that marks the Bollywood debut of his son Karan, Sunny Deol was supposed to dive into the remake of Tamil super hit Si3. Cinematographer Ravi K Chandran — known for films such as Dil Chahta Hai, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Ghajini, My Name Is Khan and OK Jaanu — was making his directorial debut with this film under the production of Jayantilal Gada’s Pen Movies. However, we have learned that the film has been put on hold due to creative differences between the actor and director.

A source said, “The Si3 remake titled Arjun Singh was scheduled to roll between August and September. However, it is now stuck due to some issue. Chandran sees it as a larger-than-life commercial masala flick. Whereas Sunny thinks of it as an intense tale of a guy going all out to avenge his friend’s death. At the few script narrations that took place, Chandran tried to explain his vision to the production team. But that didn’t work out. Sunny’s absence here is the reason they haven’t come to any conclusion on how they want to tell the story.”

The producer is said to want to utilize his September date but the script continues to be an issue. “Until Chandran and Sunny come together, this confusion will continue. Now it’s the director's job to bring him on the same page. If the writers continue to meet them separately, this ping-pong will continue,” the source further added.

Sunny’s team had no light to shed on this. With the Si3 remake being on hold for now, there is a speculation that Sunny will begin Anil Sharma’s Kavach next. A source from Sharma’s office said that the script for their action drama will be ready by the second week of September and they will kick off the production as soon as Sunny gives his nod to the final draft.

Sunny is currently busy with the promotions of his next release, Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se where he will be seen with his father Dharmendra and brother Bobby Deol. The comedy-drama is scheduled to hit cinemas on August 31.
