Ever since Sanjay Dutt refused to do a cameo in Total Dhamaal, speculations have been rife that there's more to it than meets the eye. While certain reports suggest that Sanjay’s arduous schedule didn’t permit him to sign the film, other reports stated that the actor was displeased with the lead role not being offered to him. Total Dhamaal, which also stars Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit Nene, will feature Ajay Devgn taking over the baton.
For the unversed, Dutt played a significant role in the first two parts of the franchise - Dhamaal and Double Dhamaal. Total Dhamaal is the third film in the series.
In fact, a unit member was quoted as saying by a leading daily, "Indra Kumar (director) was keen on having Dutt in a special appearance. But the latter cited Prassthanam schedule and bowed out of the shoot. But it was easy to deduce that he was upset about being dropped from the franchise, and hence, didn't want to make a special appearance."

However, PeepingMoon.com has now learned that none of the aforementioned reasons are true. As per our source, Sanjay bowed out of the film because of two major reasons. Firstly, the actor did not want to be a part of another slap-stick comedy since he is redefining his image, ever since he has made a comeback to the films.
Secondly, it is not unknown that Sanjay is all set to pair up with his old flame, Madhuri Dixit in an upcoming Dharma production Kalank after 21 long years. Since Total Dhamaal also starred Madhuri, our source informed us that Sanjay was keen to reunite with her in a full-fledged role rather than Total Dhamaal, with only his special appearance. Considering Karan Johar has pulled a casting coup of sorts by roping in the famous 90s couple, Sanjay is also keen to cash in the opportunity and did not want his guest appearance to shift the focus from it.
Interesting much?
