Prakash Jha is reportedly taking his fascination for the police force further with his next film. The filmmaker’s last big project was the crime drama Jai Gangaajal in 2016. It will be remembered as Priyanka Chopra’s last outing in Bollywood before the actress went to LA and did Quantico. But Jai Gangaajal will go down as the film that Jha produced, directed and acted in as well. He plays a corrupt cop. Now, PeepingMoon.com has learned that Jha is working on a film called Dharmkshetra that’s about a police constable who retires after 30 years of service and carries with him all the problems the country’s constabulary faces in the discharge of their duties. According to sources, the script for Dharmkshetra is almost done and Jha is ready to go shopping for actors.
Jha is known, since Gangaajal in 2003, to favour films on the police that are also hard-hitting, socially-conscious dramas with a political backdrop. But after Jai Gangaajal, Jha was said to be making a film on Bihar’s schizophrenic math genius Dr. Vashishtha Narayan Singh who famously worked for NASA in Washington and then IIT Kanpur and TIFR in Mumbai before his illness got the better of him and he retired to a life of loneliness and neglect in a village. But the film reportedly ran into trouble and the mathematician’s kin is believed to have said they hadn’t given the rights to Vashishtha’s story to anybody. However, producers Vinay and Priti Sinha are reported to be going ahead with the film claiming exclusive rights have been granted to them.
And now Jha is working on Dharmkshetra. His office, however, neither confirmed nor denied the news. “As is Prakash ji’s routine, he is working on a few projects simultaneously. We can confirm them only when they mature. You will know when the proper announcement is made,” a spokesperson said. Meanwhile, Jha was also working on a film called Satsang revolving around religion and politics. Another two-hero heist movie was also rumoured to be in pipeline with Sanjay Dutt and Siddharth Malhotra as its supposed cast but there has never been any confirmation on these projects and nobody knows if they are still happening or have been shelved even before their announcements.
