Filmmaker Shashank Khaitan, after directing Varun Dhawan in two films (the Dulhania series), is all set to take a giant leap with him in their third offering Rannbhoomi. It’s a war-themed film scheduled for release in Diwali 2020. Shashank has already dived into the research and is currently working on its screenplay. This epic revenge drama which is undoubtedly one of the most ambitious projects of Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions promises a mega cinematic experience with several layers to the story.

Although Shashank has been continuously working on Rannbhoomi for the last few years, it will not be the film he is going to direct right next. PeepingMoon.com has learned that the Dhadak director is working on a spy thriller with a social issue that he will be making before Rannbhoomi goes on floors in the last quarter of 2019. The film in question is said to be the story of an Indian agent. “However, it will not be based on any real incident. It’s completely fictional and will have a commercial touch. The writing has been almost completed and an official announcement will be made soon,” a source told us.

The yet-untitled espionage thriller is expected to go on floors early next year. With Shashank directing it, the expected thing would be for this film to have his lucky mascots, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, playing leads. However, our sources don’t see that happening due to their busy schedules. “Varun has Remo D'Souza’s 3D dance film and David Dhawan’s next comedy that revives his No.1 series in the pipeline. Similarly, Alia will be busy with Sadak 2 and Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's film throughout 2019. So there is no possibility of them starring in this one. Shashank will approach actors after getting the approval from Karan Johar.” Shashank is a Dharma Productions favourite. He has delivered three back-to-back hits for Karan.
