PeepingMoon Exclusive: ‘Mind the Malhotras season 2 takes a jibe at all the Slapstick comedy shows,’ says Cyrus Sahukar

Cyrus Sahukar is well-known for his comic timing, comedy shows and satirical spoof series. He gained recognition as a VJ at the age of 18 when he won MTV VJ Hunt along with Mini Mathur and subsequently turned to Bollywood to make a mark in acting. A mention of his name and immediately one thinks of MTV Fully Faltoo and subsequent shows like Piddhu the Great, Kick Ass Mornings and Semi Girebaal. However, the actor has come a long way since then and have some great work in his repertoire.

MTV Fully Faltoo was a tremendous hit and even today is revered as a great comedy show. Is there any chance of its revival?

No, I very much doubt that ‘Fully Faltu’ will ever get a revival. It was a collection of some really amazing writers, actors and people who were spoofing stuff, but I don't know if a revival is on the cards.

Your show Semi Girebaal was an instant hit and moreover was more popular than the original, do you have anything similar in the talk show spoof genre?

Not at all. I have not got anything similar. The timing I feel is very different now. If you want to do any spoof show or create anything like that, I think it's better created on social media. As of now, I've been very busy with shooting for three web series so I’ve had no time to do any spoofs, yet.

What are your future projects?

I actually even did a chat about a feature film that was released last year called Kadakh on SonyLIV, which I even wrote the dialogues for. And so last year, that happened. I've been mostly focusing on OTT shows, and I ended up just shooting three of them, I’m waiting for their release. Kadakh was released last year during lockdown on SonyLIV, which is directed by Mr. Rajat Kapoor. So that's happened in the film world.

What prompted you to come to Audible?

Well a friend of mine from FirstAction was making a show and he actually asked me if I wanted to be on the show My 3 Secrets to Success as a guest. He mentioned that it was going to be on Audible. Luckily, Audible is also something I use very often for a lot of my audiobooks. I've been using it for years, so it worked out very well for me to just be a guest on the show.

The comedy on TV has veered towards slapstick and is a bit sexist. However, there are some great goofy shows on the web. So any plans of taking up a stand-alone comedy show?

Just did a show for Amazon Prime, which is now in its season two, which is exactly what the question is asking. Mind the Malhotras is a comedy web show, probably one of the only full on comedy web shows in its genre. It's on Amazon Prime, so I'm going to be doing season two of that. I have done a movie last year and a web show has also been done.
