Ekta Kapoor-produced Broken But Beautiful 3 will be finally releasing on ALT Balaji this weekend. Starring Sidharth Shukla and Sonia Rathee as the lead pair- Agastya Rao and Rumi Desai, the romantic drama is directed by Priyanka Ghose. The trailer of Broken But Beautiful 3 received an overwhelming response from the audience. Ahead of the show's release, PeepingMoon.com got in touch with Jahnavi Dhanrajgir, who will be seen playing the character of Sakshi, an author. For the unversed, Jahnavi has been the assistant editor on Kick and Gunday while she worked on Sultan as the assistant director.
Talking about her role in Broken But Beautiful 3, Jahnavi, who is the daughter of director Tarun Dhanrajgir, said Sakshi is a layered and a grounded character. She spoke to us about her track with Sidharth's Agastya, a director, and revealed that their love story isn't typical. The actress also opened up on playing the second lead and why it doesn't bother her.
Excerpts from the interview:
Broken But Beautiful 3 trailer received a thunderous response from the viewers? Were you expecting this?
It was already such a loved show. This season has Sidharth in it and he is looking amazing. The love has been very overwhelming actually. The trailer has received a great response and it is really nice to see that.
Can you tell us a little more about your role? What made you sign it?
I play the role of Sakshi and she is an author. She comes into Agastya’s life when he is going through a very difficult phase. I loved the fact that the character was super grounded and has got several layers and depth. I took it up because I found that very exciting. I was called for an audition and they gave me a character brief and I instantly connected with her and loved her even though she is different from who I am in real. But, there were some similarities like the way she deals with things. I thought it was really wonderful. I am glad that they chose me to play this character.
You play the second lead in Broken But Beautiful 3. Were you sceptical about playing the part?
Agastya and Sakshi do have a story. They both have pasts but their stories are different. Their story is not a typical love story. It is unique in its own way. I don’t want to reveal much, so you have to watch the show.
No, I haven’t been sceptical about it but I am rather excited. As an actor, I want to play characters that are challenging and creatively satisfying. I found this show to tick all those boxes. It challenged me in such a way that I found it interesting. I think that is very important. I play a pivotal part in this story and Sakshi's character has been beautifully written and I enjoyed bringing her to life.
Do you have any romantic or intimate scene with Sidharth Shukla?
As I said their love story isn’t typical. So once the show releases, you’ll get to see how their interaction is.
Broken But Beautiful 3 has three actors making their web debut. How was the atmosphere on the sets?
The atmosphere was so good on the sets. It was so nice to see everyone come and play their parts. Everyone was so perfectly cast. It was amazing to see Sonia as Rumi and Sidharth as Agastya. Of course, there was a lot of excitement as the show is an exciting one.
Sidharth Shukla enjoys a massive fan following. How was it working with him?
Sidharth is so down to earth. I remember the first day of my shoot and Sidharth came to me to introduce himself. He is so cool and chilled out. He makes everyone around him very comfortable. It is very easy to work around such people as it becomes possible to concentrate on playing your characters. He has got no airs and it is always a pleasure working with someone like him.
Before Broken But Beautiful 3, you did a film titled Bolo Hau with your father. What did you get to learn from him?
I learnt so much from him. I wasn’t just directed by my dad but I also edited the film. We worked very closely together. I came out from the film as a better actor because he has got so much experience and one can learn so much from him. It was a wonderful and enriching experience.
Have you seen Broken But Beautiful 3?
No, I’ll be watching the show with the audience on May 29. I’m nervous and excited and there are many emotions I am feeling. I’m so used to being on the other side of filmmaking, especially post-production. This has been a different kind of learning and nice too. As an actor, you don’t have that much control over things. You do your work and have control when you are there on the sets. However, once you come back, you have to let it go after a certain point. You’ve got to trust the director, producer, editor and the rest of the team.
You were an assistant editor on Gunday and Kick & assistant director on Sultan. What made you shift to acting?
Acting is something I have been doing forever. I did my first role when I was 4 years old (in the TV show Abhay Charan). It is something that has always been a part of my life but I never thought of taking it up seriously. Recently, I realised that the keeda isn’t going away anywhere. When I will turn 80 and look back at my life, I don’t want to say, “I wish I had given it a shot when I had the chance.” I want to try everything. We don’t have guarantees in life but at least I want to be satisfied that I have done everything that I wanted to do.
Many compared the trailer and teaser of Broken But Beautiful 3 with Shahid Kapoor's Kabir Singh. Is the show similar to the film?
Honestly, I have not seen Kabir Singh and I have only heard about the film. I also know that people are drawing many similarities. I’ll watch the film and show and then comment on it.
Will Broken But Beautiful 4 happen with the same cast?
I don’t know anything about Broken But Beautiful 4 yet.
