Remember we told you two weeks ago that after Bell Bottom (which is up for imminent release), Akshay Kumar was doing one more film with producer Vashu Bhagnani (Pooja Entertainment) and director Ranjit Tewari? Well, we are now in a position to elaborate on that juicy tidbit further!
It will be the Hindi remake of the 2018 Tamil film Ratsasan. Akshay will be stepping into the shoes of Vishnu Vishal in the critically-acclaimed psycho investigative thriller. Joining him will be the gorgeous Rakul Preet Singh. The film is in pre-production stage and will go on the floors in August in London following the same bio-bubble protocols they applied during the filming of Bell Bottom. The cast and crew will fly to London on August 5, for a month-long, start-to-finish schedule.
Rated by IMDb as a top-rated Tamil film, Ratsasan is about an aspiring filmmaker who becomes a police officer after his father’s death and investigates the murder of school girls. Directed by Ram Kumar, the original that also starred Amala Paul was a surprise hit that left everybody in the trade stunned. The film was later remade in Telugu as Rakshasudu with Bellamkonda Sreenivas playing the lead. Its Hindi remake is said to have been given a different setting to suit the sensibilities of the North Indian audiences.
Akshay will head to Ratsasan after completing Aanand L Rai’s Raksha Bandhan that recently went on the floors in Mumbai. After wrapping Tewari’s thriller he will resume shooting for Vikram Malhotra’s Ram Setu which was stopped in April due to the second COVID-19 lockdown. The superstar will then shoot for his extended cameo appearance in the Oh My God sequel starring Pankaj Tripathi in the lead.
Akshay is all set to return to theatres with his espionage thriller Bell Bottom that’s scheduled to release on July 27. This Ranjit Tewari directorial will be hitting the big screens exactly 578 days (1 year and 7 months) after Akshay’s last theatrical outing Good Newwz that opened on December 27, 2019. He is expected to follow these projects with a new big-budget extravaganza that he recently signed under a big banner.
