The critically-acclaimed 2019 Malayalam film, Android Kunjappan Version 5.25 is the latest to join the ever-expanding list of South movies set to be remade in Bollywood. Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that the science fiction comedy-drama directed by Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval is getting the Hindi remake and will star Anil Kapoor in the lead role. The original that starred Suraj Venjaramoodu and Soubin Shahir in lead is already being remade in Tamil with KS Ravikumar while its Telugu remake will soon go on floors with Mohan Babu expected to headline the cast.
Sources close to the development have informed us that producer Viki Rajani of Faith Films has bagged the Hindi remake rights of Android Kunjappan Version 5.25. Known for backing movies like Table No. 21, R... Rajkumar, Phobia, Munna Michael, and the upcoming Aruvi remake starring Fatima Sana Shaikh, Rajani will produce the yet-untitled Hindi remake in the partnership with Sony Pictures India. Anil Kapoor will be playing the role of a conventional, conservative small-town villager in this film while a debutant director has been brought on board to helm. Currently in the scripting stage, the film is expected to get off the ground later this year.
Android Kunjappan Version 5.25 revolves around an old man and the unlikely bond he forms with a robot that his son brings to take care of him while the latter relocates to Russia for his job. Loosely inspired by the 2012 Hollywood movie, Robot & Frank, the Malayalam drama was highly appreciated for its fresh and intriguing plot, refreshing comic bits, and novel characterization. An endearing human drama at its core, the film explores a myriad of conflicts, emotions, and themes with its engaging storyline packed with a good dose of comedy and sentiments. The film's Hindi remake that is expected to stay true to the original will see Anil Kapoor reprising the role of Suraj Venjaramoodu who played the lead role of a stubborn old man who is very reluctant to get accustomed to any new-age technology.
Meanwhile, Anil Kapoor is all geared up to resume shooting for Karan Johar's Jug Jugg Jeeyo on 10th August in Mumbai. The Raj Mehta directed emotional family drama stars Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, and Neetu Kapoor in the lead. The 64-years young star will next be seen in the Netflix thriller film, Thar which was shot early this year and will premiere early 2022. The Raj Singh Chaudhary directorial also stars his son Harshvarddhan Kapoor and Fatima Sana Shaikh in pivotal roles. Anil is expected to head to the reported Malayalam film Hindi remake once he completes his current commitments.
