South superstar Vijay Sethupathi is going through a terrific phase in his career! The actor is slowly and steadily making his presence felt in every major regional film industry in India, with the latest being the biggest of them all — Bollywood. The Vikram Vedha star has signed three Hindi projects which include two feature films— Santosh Sivan's Mumbaikar, and Sriram Raghavan's Merry Christmas with Katrina Kaif— and one web series with The Family Man creators Raj & DK that stars Shahid Kapoor in the lead. And now it's time to add more to the filmography as he has signed his fourth Hindi project.
Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Vijay Sethupathi has now bagged Zee Studio's silent feature film, titled Gandhi Talks. It's said to be a dark comedy with elements from Gandhi's principles as the backdrop and will be directed by Marathi filmmaker Kishor Pandurang Belekar, who's known for directing award-winning theatre plays and films like Sa Sasucha (2010) and Yeda (2013). Padmavat actress Aditi Rao Hydari has been roped in to play the leading lady in this ambitious venture that depicts the harsh realities of today's times and how Gandhi has become a prime witness of everything that he stood against. The film marks Sethupathi and Hydari's second collaboration after Mani Ratnam's critically acclaimed 2018 gangster drama, Chekka Chivantha Vaanam.
Gandhi Talks has been planned as a Pan-India film that will release in six languages, which include Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam, and Kannada. It'll be after 34 years a multi-lingual silent film is being made in India. The last memorable dialogue-less movie that was released in multiple languages across India was Kamal Haasan's career-defining 1987 black comedy, Pushpak. Kishor Belekar's Gandhi Talks is expected to revive the magic of silent movies that have rarely been explored in Indian cinema since the 90s. The film that pays a tribute to Gandhi showing how his thoughts are more important and valid than his picture in the currency notes will have the background score by the Oscar Award-winner A.R. Rahman.
Gandhi Talks is said to be a passion project for Kishor Belekar who's reportedly spent 19 years working on its script. Finally set to accomplish his dream, the filmmaker is supposed to start its production by the end of this year. Vijay Sethupathi and Aditi Rao Hydari are expected to complete their current assignments before diving their attention to this dialogue-less adventure!
