PeepingMoon Exclusive: It'll be a working birthday; in a while from now, I'll start shooting for a progressive romantic project- Barun Sobti

Call him the heartthrob of TV and OTT or simply little Sifat's doting father, Barun Sobti knows how to win over his fans with his no-nonsense yet absolutely chilled attitude. Fans of Barun received a gift from the actor a day before his birthday in the form of his web film, 200: Halla Ho. He plays the role of lawyer Umesh Joshi, who is fighting for the acquittal of Dalit women. After leaving behind an impact on television, Barun has once again made it certain that he is there on OTT to stay.

As Barun celebrates his birthday tomorrow (August 21), PeepingMoon.com got in touch with him. The actor revealed that it will be a working birthday for him as he is in the middle of Asur 2's shoot. He also spoke to us about 200: Halla Ho, plans to do a light-hearted project in the future and what can fans expect from Asur 2.

Excerpts from the interview:

Before 200: Halla Ho, were you aware of the atrocities against Dalits?

Of course, I was aware but I didn’t know much about this particular incident.

On the OTT, you’ve been majorly doing thrillers. Any plans to do something on a lighter note?

Currently, I’m in the middle of Asur 2. In a while from now, I’ll be shooting for a progressive romantic show. So that will be light-hearted.

Are you consciously working towards shedding your image of a romantic hero that was established after Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?

There is so much more to do than shedding an image. I’m just doing projects that resonate with my thinking. If that is shedding my image of a romantic hero then it is not an effort, I’m just doing it because I like the project.

Are you planning to sign any TV show anytime soon?

Nahi yaar, not anytime soon. There is a programming change that offers you finite series with relevant subjects.

Any reason for choosing non-commercial projects?

Not really, yaar. I go on thinking that ki agar mujhe accha lag raha hai toh sabko lagega and that makes it commercial. It happened with a few projects of mine. Maybe not the entire country thinks the way I do. There is no deliberate attempt at picking non-commercial or commercial projects. I select stories that I understand and I feel I’ll be able to do justice to.

You’ll be celebrating your birthday tomorrow. What’s the plan?

Nothing, I’ll be working.

Your daughter Sifat recently turned 2. How is fatherhood treating you?

Can’t complain, I have a great time with Sifat.

What can your fans expect from Asur 2?

There is a notion that sequels are not as great as the original. The writers and the team have really worked hard to get the script we finally. It is a few notches above the first season. When we, the actors, got the script, we were really excited. Likewise, the audience can also expect the same. We are sure that the second season is going to top the first one.
