The new generation of Bollywood actors are not afraid of experimenting and Fatima Sana Shaikh is one of them. The actress who entered into the world of movies with the powerful portrayal of wrestler Geeta Phogat in the Aamir Khan-led breakout movie Dangal has always challenged herself to play diverse characters in her every film. She followed up Dangal with films such as Thugs of Hindostan, Ludo, and Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari and was last seen early this year in the Netflix anthology Ajeeb Daastaans which were all different from each other. Now, we heard the actress is gearing up for yet another challenge as she is set to wear a khaki in her next film.
Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Fatima Sana Shaikh is next doing an investigative thriller that will be directed by Ribbon (2017) fame Rakhee Sandilya. The yet-untitled film will see the actress playing the role of a young police officer who's assigned to a sensitive case that needs to be handled delicately. Fatima has signed the film and is very excited to slip into this mentally as well as physically demanding character she will essay in this thrilling drama starring an ensemble of acclaimed actors. Sagar Haveli who wrote Amazon Prime India's hit series Paatal Lok has penned this film along with the director Sandilya.
Produced by Avishek Ghosh of AVMA Media LLP, the film will go on floors in January 2022. The pre-production has already begun and the exact shooting timelines will soon be locked. This Fatima Sana Shaikh film marks AVMA Media's third Hindi production after the yet-to-release two women-led films — Blind remake, and Uma. While Sonam Kapoor stars in the former as a blind police officer in pursuit of a serial killer, Uma is a fantasy feel-good film starring Kajal Aggarwal in the titular role. All these films are expected to hit cinemas next year.
Meanwhile, Rakhee Sandilya is next gearing up for her Eros Now show Deadline that comes out in November. It's a mystery-thriller series set in a prestigious college and stars Mona Singh in the role of a female Deputy Commissioner of Police in her late 30s. Fatima, on the other hand, will next be seen in Netflix's thriller drama Thar that also stars Anil Kapoor and his son Harshvardhan Kapoor in the lead roles. The film was shot early this year in Rajasthan and will premiere sometime next year. She also has in the pipeline the remake of Tamil political drama Aruvi and a web anthology.
