Following the phenomenal success of Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, filmmakers Hansal Mehta and Jai Mehta are collaborating for yet another web series. Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that the father-son director duo is next working on a big-scale thriller series revolving around the Somalian Pirates. The Disney+Hotstar show has tentatively been titled Pirates and features an international cast and crew.
"Pirates is a fictional gritty thriller drama series inspired by true events. It's a story of a large, commercial Indian ship that gets hijacked off the coast of Somalia. What happens to the crew aboard a pirated ship and how they navigate through unimaginable, horrific circumstances form the crux of the story. Produced by Shaailesh R Singh's Karma Media And Entertainment, the show, in large, highlights the issue of maritime piracy and its impact on many Indian families. It's a world never seen before in Indian cinema," a source close to the development informed us.
Billed as one of the biggest action series coming out of Indian OTT, Pirates stars Vivek Gomber, Deepak Tijori, Rajat Kapoor, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Amruta Khanvilkar, and Gaurav Paswala in the lead roles. Hansal Mehta is serving as the showrunner of the project while Jai Mehta is solely directing it. Written by Jai Mehta, Vishal Kapoor, Suparn Varma, and Vaibhav Vishal, Pirates is the first Indian web series that explores the problem of Somali pirates that has been a cause of worry for the entire global shipping domain.
Disney+Hotstar is mounting this project on a massive scale and eyeing a mid-next year premiere for it. The series has already gone on floors and is currently being shot on a large ship in Cape Town. A 90-days shooting schedule has been planned for the show in Cape Town, Ukraine, and Delhi. Stay tuned to Peepingmoon as we bring more updates on this show soon!
