Last month, Amazon Prime Video announced the Indian adaptations of its hit American anthology, Modern Love. The streaming giant unveiled that the John Carney-created show, which was based on the weekly The New York Times column of the same name, will be adapted into Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu languages in India. While the South versions of the project are still in the development stage, the Hindi adaptation, titled "Modern Love: Mumbai", has already gone on floors. Now, peepingmoon.com has learned about the cast and directors associated with this project.
Industry sources have informed us that Amazon Prime India has brought on board six acclaimed filmmakers for the Hindi adaptation of Modern Love. Vishal Bhardwaj, Shonali Bose, Hansal Mehta, Alankrita Srivastava, Nupur Asthana, and Dhruv Sehgal will each direct one episode detailing the different shades of love, including sexual, romantic, familial, platonic, and self-love. The adapted stories will be Indian at heart, with Mumbai serving as the perfect canvas, and will feature a wealth of talent from Bollywood and beyond. An ensemble of well-known actors such as Pratik Gandhi, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Arshad Warsi, Chitrangda Singh, and Wamiqa Gabbi, among others, have been roped in to play the lead roles in this romantic-comedy anthology, inspired by real-life personal essays.
While Hansal Mehta is reuniting with his Scam 1992 breakthrough star, Pratik Gandhi, for his Modern Love segment, Shonali Bose has roped in Fatima to play a strong-willed woman in her short. Arshad Warsi and Chitrangda Singh will play a couple in Bewakoofiyaan director Nupur Asthana’s film, whereas Wamiqa Gabbi is believed to be headlining Alankrita Srivastava’s story. Vishal Bhardwaj has signed an international actor for his part, while the casting of Dhruv Sehgal’s film is not known yet. The shooting for most of these shorts has been completed, and they are currently in post-production, eyeing a world premiere in late 2022.
