PeepingMoon Exclusive: Anushka Sharma approached to play the female lead in Aamir Khan's next

Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma enthralled audiences with their incredible on-screen chemistry in Rajkumar Hirani’s PK. The two had a great time shooting for this social-comedy and have been wanting to work together again since then. Eight years down the line, Aamir and Anushka are likely to share screen space once more as Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that the NH10 actress has been approached to play the female lead in Aamir’s next with Shubh Mangal Saavdhan director RS Prasanna.

"RS Prasanna has started preparations for his Aamir Khan film after he gave his approval to proceed with the pre-production. He has initiated a conversation with Anushka Sharma to play the leading heroine, and the talks have so far been positive. She has given her verbal nod and will likely sign on the dotted line once the final narration happens. If things work out, Anushka will play Aamir’s companion in this touching dramatic comedy about a basketball team made up of people with disabilities. She will shoot for this film after completing her Netflix sports drama, Chakda Xpress," an industry source informed us.

The yet-untitled film is said to be the adaptation of the 2018 Spanish comedy drama, Campeones, and will be produced by Sony Pictures India in association with Aamir’s own banner, Aamir Khan Films. The Dangal star will divert his attention to this project after his highly-anticipated Forrest Gump remake, Laal Singh Chaddha, releases in theatres in August. RS Prasanna and his team of writers have adapted the original to Indian sensibilities and have set up the story in the heartland of Punjab. Aamir will play a stubborn and hot-headed minor league basketball coach who is sentenced to community service and forced to coach a Special Olympics team, whose players have a range of learning disabilities. The film is expected to get off the ground in late 2022.

Meanwhile, Aamir Khan's earlier announced Mogul with Subhash Kapoor has been put on hold for now. The Gulshan Kumar biopic, which was originally announced in 2018 but was delayed due to the COVID pandemic, was supposed to go into production after Aamir was done with Laal Singh Chaddha. However, with Aamir choosing RS Prasanna's film as his next biggie, the T-Series production is now likely to be put into cold storage again.
