Peepingmoon.com was the first to reveal that filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious Ramayana project has been postponed to next year due to its lead stars Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor’s busy schedule throughout this year. We also revealed that Nitesh will direct a quickie in between and has signed Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor to play the lead roles. Now, we have got the further details of this project, produced under Sajid Nadiadwala’s banner, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.
Industry sources have informed us that Nitesh Tiwari’s next directorial revolves around the unique theme of "trophy wife syndrome." A trophy wife is generally considered to be someone whom a man marries for prestige purposes only because of her beauty. "Nitesh Tiwari’s film is a story of a small-town boy, played by Varun Dhawan, who marries the city’s most beautiful girl (essayed by Janhvi Kapoor), thinking that having her as a wife will increase his social standing among peers. However, things turn upside down when something unthinkable happens in the couple’s life. In today’s time, a wedding has become more of a beauty-status exchange, and marrying a girl who’s more attractive than himself acts as a symbol of the person’s social position. Tiwari’s film is a romantic-comedy that deals with this societal topic in an entertaining way," a source close to the development told us.
The pre-production of this film is going on in full swing and will get off the ground around April 10th in Lucknow. A month-long schedule has been planned in the UP capital city, after which the team will head to Kanpur for a couple of days. The film has apparently been envisioned on a large scale and will be shot in four countries. A major portion will be filmed near Lucknow’s Society Park, where Nitesh’s wife, Ashwini Iyer Tiwari, also shot her 2017 blockbuster, Bareilly Ki Barfi. The film is supposed to finish production by July 2022.
Varun is expected to follow up the Nitesh Tiwari film with his debut OTT series, Citadel. It’s an Indian adaptation of the Russo Brothers’ global action thriller series for Amazon Prime Video and will be directed by The Family Man creators Raj & DK. Samantha Ruth Prabhu also plays a pivotal role in this show, which is scheduled to go on floors sometime around August 2022. Varun has also signed a Rajkumar Hirani production, however, the shooting timelines for that project are not locked in yet. Janhvi Kapoor, on the other hand, is currently shooting for Sharan Sharma’s Mr. & Mrs. Mahi with Rajkummar Rao. She will next be seen in Aanand L Rai’s crime-comedy, "Good Luck Jerry," which will premiere directly on Disney+Hotstar, followed by the Hindi remake of the Malayalam survival drama, "Helen."
